Stuttgart Airport (EDDS) - Jet Charter Services

Stuttgart, Germany, is a city of beauty, manufacturing – and beer.

Nestled in a fertile valley along the Neckar River just west of Bavaria, Stuttgart is the birthplace of both Mercedes-Benz and Porsche. Today, they both have headquarters and museums there.

Located an hour from the Black Forest, Stuttgart is the capital of Germany’s Baden-Württemberg state. It is also the location of the fall Cannstatter Volksfest, Germany’s second biggest beer festival after Oktoberfest in Munich.

Located in southwest Germany, Stuttgart is a transportation hub with easy access to other German cities, such as Frankfurt and Munich, and is also within a reasonable distance from the countries of Switzerland, Austria, France and Luxembourg.

And, the best way to get to all that wonderful history, scenery, business, food and drink is to charter a private business jet into Stuttgart International Airport (STR, ICAO: EDDS).

About Stuttgart Airport

The airport is near located eight miles from the center of Stuttgart near the towns of Leinfelden-Echterdingen and Filderstadt.

In 2007, the Stuttgart Trade Fair, a huge exhibition center, was built next to the airport.

The world headquarters of APCOA Parking is also located at the airport.

In a controversial move in 2014, Stuttgart city officials voted to name the airport after the late Alfred Rommel, who had served as mayor of the city for more than 20 years and was instrumental in growing the airport. Only problem was Rommel’s father was Nazi general Marshal Erwin Rommel and modern-day Germans feared foreigners wouldn’t understand the airport was not named in honor of a Nazi.

The sign on the front of the airport, which is located eight miles south of the city, shows that a compromise seems to have been reached with “Stuttgart Airport” in large letters and “Alfred Rommel Airport” subjugated in smaller letters right next to it.

FBOs at Stuttgart

Kurz Aviation is the lone fixed base operator at Stuttgart International, the sixth busiest airport in Germany with more than 10 million passengers using it every year.

First, the coolest thing about an FBO in a place where luxury cars are manufactured is that it can partner with those car companies to its customers’ benefit.

In cooperation with Porsche, Kurz Aviation offers an exclusive limousine service with Panamera sports cars. And, in cooperation with Mercedes-Benz, air-conditioned Sprinters transport guests and crews to and from the apron.

A special Kurz VIP service called “Follow Me” allows guests to travel in their own limousine to and from their planes – with a police escort.

Kurz began its aviation services at Stuttgart’s General Aviation Terminal in 1998. It has won awards for both its architecture and service since then, including “Best Business Aviation Airport 2002.”

Kurz says many of the 36,000 passengers it services a year are coming to Stuttgart on business in their own or chartered business jets from brokers such as Paramount Business Jets..

The General Aviation Terminal’s conference room, which is semi-circular with seating for 40, overlooks the airport and its control tower.

Amenities include:

  • A large lobby.
  • Meeting and conference rooms
  • VIP lounge
  • Briefing rooms
  • Crew snooze rooms and lounge
  • VIP services
  • Catering

In 2015, Jet Aviation and Kurz Aviation Service partnered to provide an FBO network to serve all of Germany. The companies split management of FBOs at Berlin Tegel and Schönefeld, Dusseldorf and Munich (Jet Aviation) and Cologne, Egelsbach, Frankfurt and Stuttgart (Kurz Aviation Service). Wi-Fi

Companies and Events near Stuttgart

It’s easy to see the pride that Stuttgart has in its reputation as a luxury-car manufacturing city as soon as an arriving visitor sees the huge Mecedes-Benz sign atop the central train station.

Stuttgart has to be able to serve many private and chartered business jets because of the large number of automobile executives that come and go.

Both Mercedes-Benz and Porsche have their headquarters there as well as museums dedicated to the past and future of their makes and models. They have exhibits that are interesting to everyone, not just car enthusiasts.

The Mercedes-Benz Museum has nine floors that trace the history of Mercedes-Benz and the carmaker’s roots in Baden-Württemberg. Classic models are on display in exhibits – many are interactive – that show how the car has evolved over time.

The Porsche Museum is as impressive on the inside as it is on the outside. The museum tracks the carmaker’s roots from the carriages it made at the turn of the century to its futuristic Formula 1 racing cars. It has about 80 vehicles on display in its 60,000 square foot exhibition area.

And, if just looking at Porsches isn’t enough for you, you can pay to rent out your favorite model for as short a time as an hour or as long as a week. Prices start at $80.

In 2018, Porsche celebrated its 70th birthday. The first Porsche prototype received its general operating permit – which means a brand has been born – in 1948. The styling and construction of the Porsche “No. 1” Roadster, with its mid-engine and lattice tube frame, have remained the cornerstone of all Porsches to this day.

Beer! Think “beer and Germany” and Munich’s Oktoberfest is likely the first festival that comes to mind. But, in a country that produces about 1.3 billion gallons of beer a year, it’s no surprise there are a lot of beer festivals there.

The second biggest festival after Oktoberfest is the one in Stuttgart called the Cannstatter Volksfest. “Wasan,” as it is known by locals, draws four million beer lovers to its annual September festival. And although it has much of the same charm and the same attractions as Oktoberfest, it seems more authentic because most of those at Wasan are actually from Germany, not tourists from out of the country like at Oktoberfest.

By the way, if you prefer wine to beer, Stuttgart has that, too. There have been vineyards and wineries for centuries in the hills surrounding Stuttgart. Visitors should try a red varietal made from the Trollinger grape, which is rare because so little of it is exported. The relatively light and fruity red wine, scoffed at by most wine enthusiasts, is a favorite “acquired taste” of locals.

The Mercedes Cup, which is held in Stuttgart, is the start of the men’s lawn season. The tournament, which is held in June, draws some of the biggest names in tennis. The Mercedes Cup, which made the switch from clay to grass from 2015, has been held in in Stuttgart since 1898, with Mercedes-Benz becoming the sponsor in 1979.

In addition to a purse of about $1 million, there’s an added incentive for the winner: a new Mercedes-Benz. Of course, there is a VIP package available for elite guests that includes the best seats and a tour of the facilities, including the players’ lounge.

Christmas in Stuttgart: The Stuttgart Weihnachtsmarkt, which dates back to the 1600s, is one of seven iconic Christmas markets that show off the best of Germany and its historic Christmas traditions – like nutcrackers. Every year, some 3.5 million visitors come to see all the original and one-of-a-kind items for sale in the hundreds of vendor booths at the market. The stalls are all elaborately decorated as vendors vie for the coveted “Most Beautiful Stall” award.

According to one visitor, one of the best spots is the stall tucked away in the Altes Schloss, a 16th century Renaissance palace that twinkles during the Christmas season with countless lights and large glowing stars. There is even a smaller market for children with rides and toys and a miniature train.

Among the specialty local food items you’ll find there are bratwursts, spätzle, fish on a stick, anise cookies and a marzipan shaped like a pig as a token of good luck in the New Year.

The Messe Stuttgart is a huge conference center conveniently located in the heart of Europe at the Stuttgart Airport. Many rented private business jets into EDDS carry world market leaders for meetings and conventions at the Messe Stuttgart. Many exciting startups are developed there.

The Messe Stuttgart

It has more than 10 large meeting halls and exhibition spaces. It has hosted events such as the CMT, the world’s largest public trade fair for tourism and leisure. Messe Stuttgart is located next to Stuttgart Airport. It is the ninth biggest exhibition hall space in Germany. Its new exhibition grounds were completed in 2007.

One of the most striking features of the Stuttgart Messe is its huge parking garage that spans the A8 Autobahn. It has space for 4,200 vehicles on five floors and has one of the largest illuminated logos in the world displayed on each side – four-ton Bosch signs. Businessman Robert Bosch reportedly paid $23 million for the naming rights.
